Vitascope Art Deco Rocking Ship Clock, in working condition
An electric movement, cream Bakelite case and an original grey metal back with start wind and light switch, & labelled Vitascope Industries Ltd. The clock was designed in 1941 and amended in 1947 by a Mr J. Powered by a 240 volt 50 cycles mains supply to a synchronous movement which drives both the hands and the automation. It is lit from the back of the case through a cylinder. The cylinder made up of colored strips giving the effects of sunrise and sunset as it rotates. The movement is not self starting when first switched on and the knob at the back of the clock has to be turned in the direction indicated to start the clock. Clock must have 50 cycles to keep time, USA mains is 60 cycles so the clock will run fast. Voltage must be correct also, you may need a transformer, etc which is included, see attached. Condition of the case is very good, no cracks or breaks, there is some dis-coloration as always with early plastic, see the pictures.
